If you suffer from inflammation, here is how you can use ice baths to reduce inflammation:

Can Ice Baths Reduce Inflammation?

When immersed in an ice bath your blood vessels narrow, decreasing blood flow to your muscles – which can result in a reduction in inflammation. This has been shown to be an effective method, particularly for treating swelling and inflammation following an injury and can also reduce recovery time. Many also use ice baths for inflammation post-exercise too.

In regards to using ice baths for chronic inflammation, whilst there is limited research, findings do suggest that ice baths may be effective in helping chronic inflammation. Before using ice baths for chronic inflammation we do recommend speaking with your healthcare provider and seeking advice on how best to use your ice bath safely.

And, if you do get the go-ahead to try ice baths to reduce inflammation, the good news is that ice baths have many other benefits too. These include:

  • Boosting your immune system
  • Helping to train your brain to have a higher tolerance to stressors
  • Boosting your mood
  • Helping to reduce anxiety & depression
  • Aiding weight loss
  • Increasing energy levels
